On Thursday, we talked about the ‘Concept’.

Concept:

i.                    Basic units of logical thinking or symbolic knowledge

ii.                  An idea about something that provides a means for understanding the world

iii.                Efficient processing of information

Two general kinds of concept:

Concrete Concepts	Abstract Concept
-Easily identified by physical appearance e.g: House	- Underlying notions not readily observable on the surface. e.g: Home

Concept Rules:

1.      Simple : Only one particular feature must be present. For example: red is colour for an apple.

2.     Conjunctive : Simultaneous presence of two or more common characteristics.

   For example: Aunt      -->  female

                                  -->  mom’s sister

3.    Disjunctive : Presence of one common characteristic or another or both.

   For example: Schizopheronic person --->  hears voices

                                                        --->  having distorted beliefs

Superordinate	Vehicles
Basic Concepts	Boats
Subordinate	-Sailboat -Motoboat -Kayak

Feature Based Categories:

i.                    Defining features: Features must be present in all positive instances.

ii.                  Correlational features: Frequently found in positive instance but are not essential for concept membership.

iii.                Irrelevant features: Characteristics that are unrelated to membership in the category.

Prototype:

The original item on which subsequent models are based

For example: Birds, have feathers.

Lecture of 4th and 6th December 2012

ASSALAMMUALAIKUM...

 

This week on Tuesday, our lovely madam Dr.Lihanna gives us a lecture on the nature of knowledge. The very simple way to understand this nature as shown below:

                       For the Thursday class, there is no lecture at all. Madam asks us to discuss about our animal show that will be held on Saturday 8^th December 2012 last day for psychology week. We discuss on what we want to do in order to make our animal show looks interesting. We prepared the movie of our hamster training named “Abe”, a poster contains Abe’s biography and the process we used in the animal training.

                       On Saturday, it is a big day for our group because we gonna see Abe’s show and Dr.Lihanna will count on it. But unfortunately, Abe didn’t performed well during that day, he so passive and afraid of people and crowded place. So, we very sad but luckily we prepared the video on it. That’s our entire story for this week. Thank you. (“,)
